A coworker has a Bacon avocado tree, and she brings me a few each month.  They are the most delicious avocados I have ever had.

They are large, and the “meat” is a wonderfully creamy, buttery texture and flavor.  My favorite avocado by far.

New Year, New Goals

Posted in Uncategorized on January 14, 2011 by nosferatofu

So far, so good. Been doing photography, not much cooking. Playing with my birds and strengthening my yoga practice. Looking forward to getting out this weekend for some photos. This week has been rather crazy, so haven’t done any photography since last weekend. Boooo.

I’m trying to keep this blog more current, even if it isn’t anything profound that I’m typing. I’ve also been spending a lot of time thinking about where I want my photography and creative pursuits to go. I’m looking at galleries and thinking of making prints and such. The idea of coming up with a price for selling my work is daunting and very distasteful. I don’t like charging, I’ll just say that. So hopefully I can find a middle ground where I’m happy and anyone who might be interested in my art can be happy too. What matters to me is sharing my vision with people, anyone who cares to look, at least.

Okay…..this is just a rambling post so I’ll end it now.

Hope everyone’s year is going well so far!

Photoshoot….with the birds

i gave them all a bath the other day and they each had their own unique reaction i had to get out the camera to document it.

antisocial archimedes LOVED the mist bottle…..he opened his wings and totally got into it.  afterward he sat so regal, like he was top bird.

kashi bird tolerated it for a while then decided she had enough of this clean business and trundled over to a corner to fix her feathers.

molly HATED the mist bottle…..ran from it like a little chicken, all the way out of the bedroom and into the living room where she hid under my computer chair!  that’s her safe zone when on the floor.  when i finally convinced her to come back she sat on my lap and chewed her toe nervously……

in other news…..i totally scored at the downtown Fullerton farmer’s market today……3 tubs of hummus for $10! vegan curry, avocado cilantro and artichoke garlic. the hummus guy was soooo greek and looked like adam sandler!

my new bird

I’ve been going to the exotic bird shop for the past few weeks, scoping the different parrots.  They got in a clutch of 8 week old Blue Cinnamon Indian Ringneck Parakeets this week and they caught my eye.

These birds have the most beautiful call of any parrot, and are extremely good talkers.

This will be one very spoiled bird.  She’s getting a huge cage, with lots of toys and treats, and she’ll be eating only organic.  And  I’ll be sharing all my fruits and veggies with her 🙂

She’s still being bottle fed so I don’t get to bring her home for 2 more weeks but I special ordered her cage, and that doesn’t arrive for another week so it works out fine.

Veggie Pride Parade

Posted in Uncategorized on April 16, 2009 by nosferatofu

Veggie Pride Parade LAI finally finished my master’s, so what am I doing with my new found freedom, aside from yoga? I’m going to the Veggie Parade. Alia, Kim and I scheduled our April veggie meetup for this event, so I hope to see some familiar faces there!

Vegetarians everywhere UNITE! Join LA’s first VEGGIE PRIDE PARADE and help make veggie history!

The festivities will begin at 11:00 am at Culver Events, where “veg heads” will register, enjoy a pre-march rally with veg entertainment and a special keynote speaker to rally the veg troups for our historic march. At noon we will begin a 5K walk through Venice with participants adorned with eye-catching costumes and thought provoking signs to educate people about the humane, environmental, and health benefits of a vegetarian diet.

After the march we will gather for a post-parade rally to celebrate the vegetarian lifestyle, with special guest presentations, music & veg entertainment, costume contest, and of course, a smorgasbord of vegan food from our area’s top veg restaurants.

So, come and get your veg on with inspiring guest speakers Karen Dawn, Rory Freedman, and other special guests. You’ll be able to explore great food and cruelty-free shopping with our Veggie Pride Parade Vendors!

Famous Vegetarian Author Needs Help

robbins

(quoted from ecorazzi)

One of the most famous vegan authors of our time, John Robbins, learned last month that he and his wife lost their entire life savings at the hands of Bernie Madoff’s dastardly Ponzi scheme. Now the Robbins family is facing a sudden and severe financial crisis and needs our help!

In a letter posted on VegSource.com, author Patti Breitman writes: “To economize, the family has rented out every extra room in their house and every spare space on their property. Still, it is not clear if they will be able to pay their mortgage or keep the property they share with their son, his wife and their two grandsons.”

While I’ve never met Robbins personally, Diet for a New America, Food Revolution and Healthy at 100 are staples on my bookshelf and have helped countless people (including many of our favorite veggie celebs) live a more healthy, eco-friendly life.

So now’s it’s time to give back! If Robbins’ words have helped you throughout the years and you’d like to say thanks, please send donations to John Robbins, c/o Patti Breitman, 12 Rally Court, Fairfax, CA 94930.

Let’s rally together and help a friend who’s helped so many!

My thoughts:
…..reading his books are what convinced me to go vegan. He is an amazing person, and has a wonderful family. I’m going to donate as a way of thanking him for not only making a huge difference in my life, but in the lives of so many people. I know the economy is bad right now, but if you have a few extra dollars, I encourage you to help him out as well!

Chickens: the new barnyard bouncers?  I challenge anyone to say that animals are dumb after watching this.
