Vacation Fun

David J from Bauhaus singing Bela Lugosi’s Dead

I took another vacation this past week because the one I took a few weeks ago just wasn’t long enough.  I do feel more rested now, kinda.

Or maybe just okay with going back to work because except for today, I’ve spent my whole vacation running around getting my photo prints ready for the art show.

Today was my planned day of relaxation, so I slept in, played WoW for a few hours, got lunch at Veggie Grill and then saw Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.

Last night I went with some friends to the Pioneers of Goth concert.

Before the show I took my friend Irene to Pho Veggie (Thuyen Vien) for her birthday dinner.  We had soy garlic chicken, banana wrap appetizer and lemon pepper fried tofu, and fried rice.  SO GOOD.

chillin on the couches before the show…..

Vegan Food and Fun

Posted in asian, dinner, events, restaurants on April 29, 2012 by nosferatofu

As an early Mother’s Day gift, on Friday I took my mom out to dinner at Au Lac, a popular Asian themed vegan restaurant in my area.  They specialize in raw, which is good, but not really my thing.  We got a soy beef steak with asparagus and brown rice, fried tofu with pepper, and kung pao chicken.  I don’t normally eat so much soy, but this was a special occasion 🙂

They were out of their awesome choconut xtacy dessert, so we tried a rainbow fruit type thing, and I got an avocado parfait.  It was seriously delicious.

My main reason for taking my mom out to dinner was to get her in the area of a particular Barnes & Noble where there was going to be a book signing by the vegan chef for Ellen DeGeneres.  My mom likes to watch the Ellen show, and earlier in the week he was on there talking about  his new cookbook, Vegan Cooking for Carnivores, that was coming out and I said I would get it for her for mother’s  day.  So when I was going to go to the bookstore to pick it up, I saw he was doing a book signing.  What a coincidence!

It was a lot of fun and the  chef is really nice.  I ended up meeting his wife and son, who were very nice as well.  The cookbook has some incredible recipes, and is now my favorite cookbook….and finally…..a vegan cookbook written by a guy!

Check it out, the recipes are seriously great.  All in all, it was a really nice Friday night.

Getting Ready for the Holidays

Went to Thuyen Vien last week for dinner and to put in my order for their holiday feast.  It looks so delicious I can’t wait to try it out.

They have really good vegan cheesecake.

beef.....the chicken of the sea

beef.....the chicken of the sea

This picture has nothing to do with this blog entry but I wanted to share some laughs 🙂  No idea what its supposed to mean though.

Did some epic shopping at the grocery store yesterday.  Lots of delicious food in store.  I promised myself as I was putting it all in the refrigerator that I wouldn’t forget to take pictures of the food this time.

Well…..I already failed…..forgot to take a photo of the vegan spinach lasagna I had for dinner last night.  Topped with basil leafs.  And garlic bread.  Soooooo good.

Well at least I have the rest of the week to make up for last night’s omission.  And tomorrow (Tuesday) I’m meeting a friend for some Thai food vegan dinner.  So….lots in store.

Until then……enjoy the cow and dolphin frolicking in the sea 🙂

post feeding frenzy shabu shabu

It was my friend Alyson’s birthday dinner last Saturday so we all met at a great Japanese Shabu Shabu place in downtown Fullerton.

Mostly people that I know from Bunker and the various clubs but we’ve become friends outside the clubs too.  Lots of fun and great food!

I had the vegetarian dinner with a can of green tea.  That can was super thick….I don’t think the Japanese believe in conserving resources haha.  The waitress looked at me with sympathy after she tried to get me to order the beef.  Sorry lady, beef would make me puke.

Dinner at Kobe Steakhouse

kobe

Went out with my family to celebrate the 3 day weekend at Kobe Steakhouse. It is one of those hibachi style places where they cook in front of you and do all kinds of cool acrobatics (pictured above, he made an onion volcano).

I got the Vegetarian Delight with miso soup and fried rice. It was really good! There were also chunks of fried tofu to go with the vegetables.

vegan fritatta

My whole family gathered at my mom’s house for Mother’s Day.  The weather was nice, and the day was relaxing.

I’ve been lazy lately so I didn’t cook anything.  But my mom cooked an awesome meal.  Vegan fritattas along with vegan chocolate chip pancakes and also cake with soy ice cream.

vegan cake

It was some good eatin’.

rose lemonade

I also met last Friday with my friend Annie at Loving Hut, which is a vegan Asian food place.  They have a few scattered around southern California.  The one we went to was in Orange, which was kind of an ugly location but I give them respect for doing their best to beautify their little area.  They built a small patio and decorated things very nicely.  It wasn’t thee best Asian food I’ve had but I’d go there again for sure.

One thing they had going very well was the rose lemonade.  That was pretty good.
